more Mucha lovefest
I hear (well read on the internet) that Mucha and Gauguin were pals? uh. the only way that could get more awesome is if Van Gogh wrote Mucha some Very Earnest Letters.(that reminds me that I need to read that book of Van Gogh’s letters…)
anyways.
so, I’m looking for a full version of what this is from. I know it’s a watercolor by mucha:
will probably be searching in the school library for pictures by him anyway. it’s for a secret project. kind of.
anyway, now I am looking at more delicius mucha art on google images, so here is one of my favorites. it’s the colors:
I also found the work of Zinaida Serebriakova recently. Admittedly, I pretty much just googled her and went “ooh, pretty” so I can’t like, geek out and tell you much about her. But her stuff is really amazing. I thought she must have been more or less contemporary from her self portrait:
but she was working in around the 1900s.
gonna try to look her up some more when I have the time. Along with a bunch of other artists whose work I’ve saved onto my desktop. more substantial posts soon, I promise. and art and Comic info. yes!
but now I need to go pack. ugh.

A.A. Milne
I almost forgot how much I love A.A. Milne’s(original) version of Winnie the Pooh. The quotes here are seriously making me really sentimental. I might go break out my books if I weren’t so sure I would end up crying:
“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
“Never forget me, because if I thought you would, I’d never leave.”
“We can’t all, and some just don’t. That’s all there is to it.”
“He respects Owl, because you can’t help respecting anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn’t spell it right.”
The only other historical figure whose quotes get me so much is Van Gogh. I need to start reading his letters, STAT:
“I think that I still have it
in my heart someday
to paint a bookshop
with the front yellow and pink,
in the evening, and the black
passerby like a light
in the midst of darkness.”
In any case, I am currently looking for A.A. Milne books on amazon, so this will probably resurface. I already want to illustrate this poem for fun.
I think I’m also going to end up rambling how awesome Beatrix Potter is. oh boy.
Anyway, read The House at Pooh Corner over here immediately.
I need to find out more about E.H. Shepard too. His little ink illustrations in the book are so perfect.

Current obsessions:
- rereading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. It’s so good. It makes me want to make comics, really badly. And the story is great, of course.
- reading Van Gogh’s letters. I don’t know, I really like him. The stuff he says seems so poignant to me.
- wasting time.
- thinking about the comic…
